NYC BLACKOUT VH1 SPECIAL

For those who missed it the first time around, VH1 Classic is airing NY77: The Coolest Year in Hell tonight. The rock doc chronicles the city's legendary Summer of Sam, focusing on NYC's social woes—unemployment, crime, and, of course, the blackout—to illustrate how they gave rise to a cultural explosion. (Graffiti made for a colorful, er, silver lining.) It's worth DVR'ing to watch filmmakers interview a crew of seventies survivors on a variety of topics, including Where They Were When the Lights Went Out. Geraldo Rivera, apparently, was with Cheech—we're surprised he remembers. See below:
